Leslie Simon’s 'Geek Girls Unite: How Fangirls, Bookworms, Indie Chicks, And Other Misfits Are Taking Over The World'

This book seeks to categorise all the types of geeky girls out there, and although classifications and labels can be pretty troublesome in society, this book is rather light and good-natured about it all. Any self-called geek will adore a read of this book, even if they don’t fit conveniently into any of the boxes.

It starts off pointing out the different sort of geeks in the world, from literary to fangirl, and delves into each in their own dedicated chapter while gently poking fun. For each classification, it gives an introduction as well as general history, trivia, celebrity geeks (of Internet, Hollywood, or published fame), a guide to fakes or people who give this type a bad name, as well as their ideal love. Each chapter ends with recommended reading, watching, and listening.

‘Geek Girls Unite’ is littered with lovely illustrations from cover to cover, showing girls in all their geekiness, famous or otherwise, geeky or imaginary boys to crush over, or cool loot. The style is simple, but rather enjoyable.

Over-all it tries to bear the message to just be yourself, whatever sort of girl you are.
